Lars John Peterson

Lars John Peterson was born on 22 Sep 1868 as the fourth child of Petter Johansson and Johanna Andersdotter in Rakåsa Mellomgården, Fölene, Älvsborgs lån, Västergötland, Sweden. He had five siblings, namely: Johannes, August, Svante, Herman, and Carl Albert. He died on 18 Aug 1958 in Hosp. in Rapid City South Dakota. When he was 30, he married Delena Belle Hibbs on 01 Oct 1898 in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Lars John emigrated to Carver County, Minnesota, USA on 14 May 1886. He traveled from Minnesota to Dakota Territory in 1889 where his brother August lived (South Dakota became a state in November of 1889).  John probably came to the area on horseback as there still was no train service into Rapid City from the east. John worked as a cowboy around the area (western South Dakota, northeastern Wyoming, and southeastern Montana) until 1898 when he married Delena (Lena) Hibbs in Rapid City. They lived in Rapid City for two years before moving to the Folsom area where they lived and raised cattle until 1951 when they moved back to Rapid City to retire from ranch life. He was buried on 21 Aug 1958 in Mountain View Cemetery, Rapid City, South Dakota.

Delena Belle (Hibbs) Peterson

Delena Belle Hibbs was born on 22 May 1871 in Gladesville, West Virginia. She died on 22 Jun 1958 in Rapid City, South Dakota. When she was 27, she married Lars John Peterson, son of Petter Johansson and Johanna Andersdotter, on 01 Oct 1898 in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Delena Belle Hibbs was also known as /Lena/.

Lars John Peterson and Delena Belle Hibbs had the following children:

  1. Florence Lenore Peterson was born on 25 Aug 1899 in Rapid City, South Dakota. She died of flu 28 Feb 1920 in Rapid City.
  2. Gladys Wilma Peterson was born on 14 Sep 1900 in Rapid City, South Dakota. She died on 09 Mar 1989 in California. She married LeRoy DeWitt on 21 Sep 1919.
  3. Carl Albert Peterson was born on 28 Jan 1902 in Rapid City, South Dakota. He died on 21 Sep 1978 in Rapid City. He married Doris May DeWitt on 31 Oct 1927.
  4. Cecil Theodore Peterson was born 02 Apr 1904 in Folsom, South Dakota. He died 19 Dec 2003 in Rapid City. He married (Cora) Clarice DeWitt 20 Aug 1930 in Rapid City.
  5. Ruby Estella Peterson was born on 17 Sep 1905 in Folsom, South Dakota. She died 25 Mar 2003 in Minnesota. She married Marion Andrew DeWitt 09 May 1926 in Custer, South Dakota.
  6. (Martha) Opal May Peterson was born on 20 Jun 1911 in Folsom, South Dakota. She died 17 Sep 2005 in Minnesota.
  7. (David) Floyd August Peterson was born on 28 Apr 1913 in Folsom. He died on 18 Aug 1983 in Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, South Dakota.
